Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of community-based outpatient therapy?

There might be too many to list here! And they vary depending on your particular situation. A few of the unique benefits and features are:

  • Opportunity to assess, make changes to, and build skills in your real-life environment

  • Time and energy saved getting to and from appointments

  • Dedicated and personalized care from a consistent provider

What geographical area do you cover?

The current area of service for in-home visits includes many parts of Durham and Orange Counties as well as portions of Chatham and Wake Counties. Anyone living in North Carolina can receive telehealth services from Whole Life OT.

Can I receive other therapy services at the same time?

If you are a Medicare beneficiary, we can provide occupational therapy services through your Part B (outpatient) coverage. As beneficiaries are not allowed to use Part A and Part B coverage concurrently, you must have been discharged from all Part A services, including inpatient/skilled nursing facility care and home health services.

You can receive occupational therapy services through Whole Life OT while you are receiving physical and/or speech therapy services at another clinic.

Do I need a prescription and/or referral?

North Carolina is a direct access state, which means that occupational therapists are not required to have a physician referral in order to evaluate and provide treatment. However, a plan of care must be signed by a physician prior to providing treatment to Medicare Part B beneficiaries. Prior to your evaluation, you will be asked to provide contact information for your doctor (for example: primary care doctor, neurologist, etc.).

Are you in-network with insurance providers?

Whole Life OT is currently in-network only with traditional Medicare (Part B). For clients with Medicare Advantage plans or private insurance, I am able to provide services as an out-of-network provider.

If you would like to seek out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance company, I can provide an itemized "superbill" of services provided to be submitted with appropriate treatment and billing codes.

I’m a provider and want to make a referral. What’s the best way to do so?

You may share my information directly with the client for them to reach out: lindsay@wholelifeotnc.com // (919) 205-9878.

Referrals can be faxed to (919) 797-9921, which connects directly to a HIPAA-compliant EMR (IntakeQ). It is helpful to include the most recent medical note as well as any relevant therapy evaluation/progress notes.
